The original Double Stand Faux Pearl Necklace was designed by Coco Chanel and is believed to have been strung in the 1920s. Chanel felt that the clasp is an integral part of a piece of jewelry’s design and should be decorative instead of disguised. The original clasp had glass rhinestones simulating a Ceylon sapphire, and was strung of hand-painted, hand-knotted Czech glass faux pearls. The necklace and matching bracelet were given to Jacqueline by her mother, Janet Lee Bouvier Auchincloss.
