This gorgeous image- from an original advertisement designed by the Martin Agency- celebrates the "Moon Shot," the JFK Library and Museum's special exhibit commemorating the 40th Anniversary of the Moon Landing, a goal which President Kennedy urged the nation to meet and one he helped make a reality. Man's first walk on the moon on July 20th, 1969, has been merged with an excerpt from Kennedy's Rice University Address on the Nation's Space Effort: "Many years ago the great British explorer George Mallory, who was to die on Mount Everest, was asked why did he want to climb it. He said, 'Because it is there.' Well, space is there, and we're going to climb it, and the moon and the planets are there, and new hopes for knowledge and peace are there." The caption reads, "Many speeches promise the moon. One delivered it."
